Behind the Nails: Saccia on Creating Doja Cat’s Tour Ma Vie Nails

At the Chicago tour stop, the nail artist talks orange chrome, creative collaboration, and the heart behind her work.

For the Chicago stop of Doja Cat’s Tour Ma Vie, Saccia (@sacciadidthat) had orange chrome on her mind. The exact finish? Still up for experimentation. The nail artist planned to create a few variations before letting Doja (@dojacat) make the final choice, a glimpse into the flexibility and instinct that shape their creative partnership.

On tour, the manicure begins with the wardrobe. Once the outfit comes together, hair, makeup, and nails follow, with decisions happening the day of each performance. Saccia typically creates the nails separately, allowing herself more time to experiment while the rest of the look takes shape.

It’s a process that gives her room to play. But underneath every finish is a commitment to the fundamentals: foundation, structure, and a shape she gets just right by eye.

Saccia’s introduction to nails started with a practical consideration. In cosmetology school, she realized she didn’t want to spend her workdays on her feet. Nails offered another path. Around 2013 and 2014, as she watched nail art move in a different direction, that interest became something more.

“I was like, oh, it’s art,” she recalls.

That realization helped her see the possibilities in a medium small enough to fit on a fingertip. Today, her signature shaping technique relies on her own eye and instincts, an approach that carries through to her work with Doja.

Their connection began with a little persistence and a strategic introduction. Saccia had been attending Doja’s video shoots through one of the artist’s former managers, but she knew exactly what she wanted to do next.

“I really just want to do her nails,” she remembers thinking.

Her idea was to start by doing the manager’s nails. If her work was regularly in Doja’s orbit, it could make an introduction before she ever picked up a brush for the artist herself.

“And it happened just like that.”

Their collaboration has since encouraged Saccia to experiment with different products and ways of making nails. Each look offers another opportunity to explore what she can create, whether that means testing a chrome finish for Chicago or revisiting a distinctive silhouette.

Making those designs performance-ready comes with its own considerations. Saccia preps Doja’s nails and leaves a gel base, then places adhesive tabs inside the finished nails. She says the combination creates a strong hold throughout the show.

Next on her creative wish list is perfecting the lipstick shape. They’ve already experimented with the angled silhouette a few times, but Saccia wants to make it a regular part of their rotation. For an artist so invested in shaping, refining the outline is its own creative pursuit.

Her personal manicure preferences, meanwhile, lean classic.

“I’m a simple girl,” she says. “I like them short, cute.”

A French manicure is a favorite, proof that her appreciation for an expressive tour set can coexist with a love of something understated. She’s also excited about the interest in Russian manicures, which she connects to her enthusiasm for nail care.

Beyond the designs, Saccia wants people to understand how much of herself goes into her work.

“This is from the brain, from the heart,” she says. “I do this with love.”

She describes energy as central to her approach, making the connection behind the appointment part of the creative process. That personal investment is also finding another outlet: a forthcoming book she’s excited to share, with more details still to come.

At the Chicago stop of Tour Ma Vie, the immediate focus was on experimenting with orange chrome and finding the right finish for the night. But the conversation revealed an artist thinking beyond any single set, with more shapes to explore, ideas to develop, and a new chapter waiting to be shared.
